KAPPEL RETIRES AFTER 27 YEARS OF NYS ARTS ADMINISTRATION

Earlville Opera House (EOH) announces the retirement of Victoria Calvert Kappel, Statewide Community Regrants Director.

EOH announced today that Victoria Calvert Kappel, Statewide Community Regrants Director, will retire as of December 31 after six and a half years serving the organization. Upon joining EOH, Kappel spearheaded the organization’s acceptance of the Statewide Community Regrant Program, which provides Broome, Chenango and Otsego Counties with cultural funding through the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). Under her guidance, the program greatly increased outreach which enabled funding to reach more communities.

“The ability to work so closely with artists, administrators, and the many dedicated volunteers that make our communities come alive through the arts has been incredibly fulfilling. I will be forever grateful to have had this opportunity to forge these connections,” Kappel says.

EOH Executive Director, Michelle Connelly states, “Victoria’s service to the arts field in our tri-county service area over almost three decades has been invaluable and will be greatly missed. Her dedication and passion for fostering the arts in rural circumstances has made lasting impacts. We thank Victoria for her endless work in inspiring us, for connecting us, for possessing the rare gift for bringing artists, ideas, and audiences into the same room, and for showing us what the arts can do to enrich life. Her legacy isn't just through the work she has done, but rather, it is the lasting impacts on the communities she brought together through the arts. We hope Victoria’s retirement is filled with the same vibrant creativity she shared with all of us, and we are so lucky to have been part of her wonderful cast. Victoria didn't just work in the arts; she wove us together. We will miss her warmth, her vision, and her friendship deeply."

Victoria Calvert Kappel has been a familiar face in arts administration in Central New York, with fifteen years as the Executive Director of the Chenango Arts Council and four years as the Executive Director of Arts at the Palace prior to her tenure at Earlville Opera House.
