Artist Statement:
I am an oil painter. I have tried other mediums but always come back to paining in oils, the way of the old masters paint. Painting in oils gives me time to blend and paint in multiple layers, building and blending as I go. It is a slow process, but quite effective.
I mostly use brushes, but I find palette knives quite effective too, especially when working on rocks and tree trunks.
I strive for my paintings to have an impact and I try to paint them as realistic as possible. Because of my love for contrast, my paintings are bursting with color. My granddaughters are always amazed at how many greens I can portray in my paintings.
My hope is that my paintings are relatable and spur a past memory or a future dream.
Artist Bio:
Growing up on a small family farm outside Hamilton, New York, Charlotte can’t remember not drawing or painting. As an only child, she entertained herself for hours on end, escaping into the world of art.
At the age of 11, the family made a drastic move to Florida, where Charlotte continued to find solace in the art world and was fortunate enough to take drawing lessons with “Bean” Albert Backus, a well- known Florida artist. He encouraged her to be unique and find her own style as he saw promise in her work and passion. She spent the next couple decades of her life experimenting with different techniques in oil and water color paintings. Many of her paintings portrayed her love for horses and Upstate New York scenery to include rustic barns, historic covered bridges, Victorian homes, and wintery snow scenes.
In 2008, Charlotte became overcome with artistic inspiration when she traveled to Italy for the first time. Her love for Italian architecture, the opulent Mediterranean Sea and the quaint villages came to life on extraordinary oil canvases. Charlotte fell in love with Italy and goes back there every time she paints it. As lovely as Europe is, Charlotte keeps finding herself going back to her country roots. She has a penchant for old barns, farmhouses, animals, country kids, winding country dirt roads, meadows and woods, and the ever-changing seasons.
Charlotte was accepted into the National Association of Women Artists in 2011.
