Market Surveys are used at the EOH to determine our patrons' source of information about performers/artists as well as audience geography and age. The surveys are disseminated by board and volunteers at EOH performances and the results are tabulated by EOH staff and volunteers.
Our survey instrument is the “raffle slip.” The raffle survey gathers information about name, address and how did they hear about the show. Our patrons have the incentive of winning free tickets to an upcoming show or another prize like an artist CD for participation. This year we revised our survey to be simpler to improve participation. We were previously asking about each individual place that we advertised and each method of mailing. The new survey tool asks about general categories and more people are filling in all of the requested data.
While our previous surveys had collected geographic information, this year we upgraded our survey instrument to begin collecting data on age as well. This summer of 2009, the surveys are initially confirming our perception that most of the EOH audiences are over 40 years of age. However, we note that about a quarter of the survey responders are not filling in age info.
